Wordcount Wednesday

BOOM!

That’s what I’m talking about.

This week has been crazy. I tried to really hunker down and focus, especially since I knew that I was within spitting distance of the midpoint, the halfway point in my current work-in-progress’s story. It was so close I could practically smell it. But it always seemed to dance out of reach.

But not this week. As of today, I’ve reached the midpoint!

Okay, maybe I need to settle down a little. I don’t know for sure that this is the actual midpoint in terms of wordcount. I really hope it isn’t. As of right now, “Morning Dove” (I suppose I need to start working on an actual title for this monster) is at a staggering 84,192 words (which means I somehow added 16,274 words to the manuscript this week; no idea how I pulled that off!). In some ways, I almost feel like the story should be over, and not just half way. But I’m a guy who likes to outline. As of right now, I’m at the halfway point of how I outlined it. Now, the second half might not (hopefully won’t) take another 80,000 words to reach. At least, really hope it won’t. I’ve got an idea of what needs to happen in the rest of the book and I don’t think it’ll take that many words to get it done.

Still, just to be on the safe side, I adjusted my target wordcount this week to a whopping 150,000 words. Again, that might be way too long and I won’t need that much space to work, but better to be on the safe side.

And as great as this week has been, I think I need to take a day or two to regroup. Like I said, I’ve been focused on getting to this point for so long, I’m kind of not sure what happens next. I have ideas of what needs to happen yet. I just need to figure out the how’s and why’s and start piecing all of that together for sure.

But it still feels really, really good.
