So in some ways, I’ve been cheating.

Well, not really. I’ve actually faced a bit of dilemma when it comes to sharing these stories about how I went from unpublished wannabe to published impostor author. The dilemma is this: the order my books were published is not the order in which they were written. If you’ve been reading all of these entries, you’ve seen that for yourself. I actually wrote the story of Numb before I had even dreamed up Failstate and his compatriots. I’ve even told how my failure to pitch Numb led to the creation of Failstate and his stories.

But that just begs the question: how did I come up with Numb in the first place?

Well, I’ve actually told that story before. If you’re curious, click on over to here and see how it all came about. I’ll also add it into the series as the next entry.

So how did it wind up getting published? Well, around the same time that Jeff Gerke was asking me if I had any non-superhero ideas. And so I told him that I had this one book about an assassin that couldn’t feel emotions or pain. And the next thing I knew, I had a a contract to publish Numb.

That’s it. That’s all there was to it. Eventually, we had a cover to go with it.

So what happened next? How did The Hive come along? Well, that all came about because of a bit of delicious irony. But that’s next time in the Confessional.
