What a difference a week makes.
So for whatever reason, I’ve been sputtering along with this story. Part of that was adjusting to a new schedule for my family. My wife recently returned to work and my boys are off to school again. This has resulted in some upheaval and chaos in our house as we’ve all adjusted to new schedules and new roles. But now that things are starting to settle into a more permanent routine, I’ve been able to find the time to start writing regularly once again (a little bit in the morning, a little bit in the afternoon), and my wordcount shows it.
Last week, my WIP clocked in at 16,519 words. In the past week, I’ve been able to write 11,766 words, bringing the grand total to 28,285 words. It’s a great leap forward, and I’m hoping I can maintain the pace.
I’m not exactly sure what made the difference. I have my suspicions, though. For starters, I think parts of the story are really starting to gel in my mind. I’m seeing connections in the plot that I think will pay off in the end. There’s a second factor, though, one that I’m not entirely prepared to share right now. Let’s just say that late last week, I got some news that kind of lit a fire under me.
So will this kind of velocity continue? I have no idea. Time will tell, I suppose.
