That was an interesting week in terms of writing.
This past Friday, I decided that I was going to go for the gold. I was going to go for a 10,000 word day. I honestly don’t know if I ever did that before. I think I’ve come close but never quite hit that mark. So Friday, I buckled down and, over the course of about five hours, I did it. I wrote all 10,000 words.
But there was a downside to that. For starters, I think I kind of burned out on writing. I literally didn’t do much writing until today. Part of that was “real life” scheduling getting in the way. Part of it was just…well, after all that work, I needed a little bit of a break to regroup and re-energize. Plus I got stuck on a story point. So I wound up taking a little break.
The other downside is that the 10k day confirmed a sneaking suspicion that had been growing over the past week or so. I had originally set a few targets for myself on this project. It would be an 80,000 word story and I was relatively confident I could finish it up before the One Year Adventure Novel Summer Workshop in mid-June. It’d be tight; I’d have to do a lot of writing each day (around 2,500 words a day), but I was pretty sure I could do it.
But the 10k word day made me realize that neither goal is feasible. This is more likely a 100,000 word story (which is okay; that’s how long most of my stories are). And, if that’s the case, there’s no way I’ll get it done by OYAN.
So I’ve adjusted my goals. 100,000 words by the end of June. I think that’s a lot more do-able.
So where am I now? As of right now, my #GottaBeBae WIP is at 43,277 words, which means that over the past week, I added 12,929 words.
Oh. Wow. I just realized that I wrote the vast majority of that in one day. Hmmmm. I think I need to get writing.
