Waiting for Transformation

A challenging passage for today:

See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. (1 John 3:1-2)

In some ways, this is a great reminder of the grace we have in God. He has made us His children because of His great love. But then the text goes on to point out that while we may be God’s children now, the transformation isn’t over yet. What we will be has not yet been revealed. We will be like Christ someday.

It means that, no matter what we’re experiencing in the here and now, we’re waiting for a transformation into something greater. We are in the cocoon right now, waiting for our metaphorical wings. God’s grace will continue to transform us, working within us to bring about the changes that our Heavenly Father desires so that we become more and more like Christ.

The transformation will never be complete in this life. The transformation is not something to be attained this side of eternity. But I cannot wait for the day that faith will be replaced with sight, hope will give way to experience, and love will bring to completion the slow change that’s been at work in my walk with Christ.

But even so, Lord Jesus, come quickly.

  1. What an amazing promise we have in Christ! If only more people could understand that we’re not speaking of some religious attainment; we’re proclaiming the blessed personal relationship with Jesus Christ that will not only transform our lives here on Earth but also lead to that final transformation of perfection to enjoy for eternity as we live with the One who died for us for Salvation and rose again for Divine victory. Thank you for this powerful reminder of what we have to look forward to receiving!
