Wordcount Wednesday

So I tried something new with this book:

chapters of iron staffThat’s the corkboard in Scrivener for The Iron Staff Book 1. This is the first time I’ve written a complete book with that particular program. Or rather, it will be the first time I write a complete book using Scrivener. I probably shouldn’t get ahead of myself there. But I decided to take advantage of Scrivener’s ability to do a corkboard like this to help me visualize how much work I have to do yet on this book. All of those “To Do” chapters are just that: unwritten chapters. I went through the plot as I’m currently envisioning it and tried to figure out how many more chapters and scenes I need to write yet. This is my best estimate. This is subject to change. Weird ideas occur to me as I write and the plot may warp and twist because of it. But this helps me realize that I’m closer to the end than I thought.

So how did I do on actual writing? Not quite as good as I hoped. You’ll remember that last week, I set a goal for myself of writing 2,000 words a day. I didn’t quite meet it. Instead, over the last week, I wrote 8,022 words, bringing the grand total up to 62,085 words. Not too shabby, but I still have a long way to go if I hope to bring this baby to completion by the end of the month.

We’ll just have to see what the next week brings.
